Germany affirms readiness to support Ethiopia in addressing humanitarian needs

Addis Ababa, September 20, 2021 (FBC) – Personal Africa representative of the German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Germany Economic Cooperation and Development Commissioner for Africa, Günter Nooke affirmed his country’s commitment to support Ethiopia in addressing growing humanitarian needs in northern parts of the country.

Peace Minister Muferihat Kamil received a German delegation led by Chancellor’s personal Africa representative Günter Nooke and briefed the members on the catastrophic humanitarian situation inflicted by the terrorist TPLF group in the northern parts of Ethiopia.

Muferihat briefed the delegation that more than 4.5 million people have been affected by TPLF atrocities while over 540,000 residents in Amhara and Afar regions are forced to flee their homes.

She told the delegation that humanitarian interventions by partners and international organizations is still too low although the government facilitated enabling environment for the relief operation.

Günter Nooke, the head of the delegation, said Germany is ready to assist Ethiopia in bridging humanitarian aid gaps and delivering emergency food and non-food items to those in need.
