Government ready to work with international community in verifying information about situation in Tigray

Addis Ababa, February 26, 2021 (FBC) – National Disaster Risk Management Commission (NDRMC) said that the government of Ethiopia is ready to work with the international community in verifying information about the current situation in Tigray State and facilitating ways for the humanitarian responses.

NDRMC Commissioner Mitiku Kassa said that the government is ready all the time to collaborate with international, regional and national institutions that want to contribute positively in supporting the humanitarian and rehabilitation efforts.

He stated that the humanitarian support being provided in the state is increasing day to day.

Mitiku also asserted that the government has provided humanitarian assistance to 3.1 million people as of the beginning of the current week adding that the government has undertaken support promptly and more than 115 partners have been deployed to Tigray thus far.

Meanwhile 26 non-governmental organizations are currently working with the government of Ethiopia; some of them are being deployed as members of the Emergency Response Coordination Center and Incident Command Post (ICP) established in Mekelle and Shire cities respectively.

Despite the presence of limitation, the amount of humanitarian aid being provided is increasing and strengthening.

According to EPA, the government has covered 70 percent of the food supply, mentioning the limitations to provide non-food items.
