Guangzhou Automobile Corporation, Huajian Group sign MoU to expand investment in Ethiopia

Addis Ababa, April 12, 2024 (FBC) – Guangzhou Automobile Corporation (GAC), one of the largest electric vehicle producers, signed MoU agreement with Huajian Group, a Chinese company operating in Ethiopia.

Zeleke Temesgen (PhD), Deputy Commissioner of Ethiopian Investment Commission, Ethiopian Ambassador to China, Tefera Derbew, Vice Mayor of Guangzhou, Tan Ping and Chairman of Huajian Group, Zhang Huarong, President of GAC, Feng Xingya, and several others attended the signing ceremony.

Delegates of the Ethiopian government, the Guangzhou Municipal Government and the Huajian Group also visited GAC Group.

During the signing ceremony, Tefera Derbew said, the two countries have elevated their diplomatic relations to an “All Weather Strategic Partnership” and are cooperating to create a better and mutually beneficial relationship.

He also said the cooperation between the two countries will “boost investment and trade relations between Ethiopia and China.”

Deputy Commissioner Zeleke stated that the agreement between GAC and Huajian Group was signed when Ethiopia has shown its commitment and interest to further expand electric vehicles in its local market.

The Deputy Commissioner also reaffirmed EIC’s full support to GAC so that it can set up its investment in Ethiopia.
