Islamic Affairs Supreme Council calls for immediate humanitarian assistance to IDPs in Northern Ethiopia

Addis Ababa, September 22, 2021 (FBC) – Ethiopian Islamic Affairs Supreme Council has called for immediate humanitarian assistance to internally displaced people in the Northern parts of the country.

President of the Ethiopian Islamic Affairs Supreme Council, Grand Mufti Haji Omer Idris, in a press briefing, said a large number of people are suffering from catastrophic situation due to lack of food and other supplies in northern parts of Ethiopia.

Emergency Fundraising Committee that will go operational as of Sep. 23 has been established, the Grand Mufti said, calling Ethiopians at home and abroad and partners to respond to the grave humanitarian situation.

The Grand Mufti indicated that repeated attempts made by religious fathers to solve the conflict through peaceful process and reconciliation failed, adding that the war has left many at stake.

He announced that bank accounts are opened in Commercial Bank of Ethiopia, Cooperative Bank of Oromia, Awash Bank, Oromia International Bank and Abyssinia Bank. Currently account number 1000091319997 active in Cooperative Bank of Oromia is active for the fundraising, it is indicated.
