Mekele City getting back to normal: Mayor Ataklti Haileselassie

Addis Ababa, December 17, 2020 (FBC) – The new Mayor of Mekele City,  Ataklti Haileselassie said the city is getting back to normalcy, adding that participatory activities being carried out in collaboration with the national army to ensure that livelihood of residents is fully restored to previous state.

According to EPA, the new Mekelle City Mayor with the Tigray Provisional Administration, Ataklti Hailesilassie, stated that following the completion of the law enforcement in the region, the interim administration is working closely with the federal government in resuming various social services and reestablishing stability in the city.

The Mayor expressed confidence that the city will be getting to full normalcy within a short time, underlining that joint activities of the interim administration of Tigray and the federal government has brought about better results in restoring peace and resuming social services in the city.

Activities are underway to bring public representatives who are to be elected by the people through direct participation to leadership positions at the to be established City Council of Mekele.

Members of the City Council are expected to transform livelihoods of residents and normalize the situation through adequate responses to grievances related to lack of justice, development and maladministration issues.
