MFA calls on partners to join hands for speedy, transparent online visa services

Addis Ababa, August 24, 2022 (FBC) – A virtual meeting was held on Tuesday between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia and concerned bodies, to discuss how to advance and deliver timely consular services.

The meeting was led by State Minister Ambassador Birtukan Ayano and attended by ambassadors and concerned officials.

Although the government has implemented current technology to deliver online visa and consular services, the meeting noted the need to fill the gap in the implementation of the services.

Ambassador Birtukan stated that the services provided by Ethiopian missions are opportunities to demonstrate quality service and the potential for delivery to investors, business leaders, and diplomats visiting the country.

Noting the importance of advancing online and digital services, Ambassador Birtukan said in order to provide transparent and faster service, partner institutions must work together in a coordinated manner.

Biruh Tesfa, for his part, promised to work closely with applicants to resolve complaints about the advancement of quality services and the upgrading of online services.

Even though the online service is new, it was noted during the discussions that 800-1500 visas are issued daily using it. The General Director also stated that the focus will be on further improving services in the future.

Participant Ambassadors also advised applicants to exercise caution when making online applications and to avoid applying to similar but unverified pages, and to report any unverified or fake pages to their respective embassies.
