Peace accord an opportunity to commit efforts on bridging gaps in education sector: Minister

Addis Ababa, November 18, 2022 (FBC) – The current relative peace in Ethiopia offers great opportunity to commit efforts to fill the blanks in education and related sectors, said Education Minister, Prof. Berhanu Nega.

The 31st Ethiopian National Education Conference has officially kicked off in Hawasa City earlier today.

The theme of the conference is “Strong Education and Evaluation System for Quality Education”.

The head of Sidama Region, Desta Ledamo, Minister of Education, Prof. Berhanu Nega, university presidents, regional education office officials and scholars are attending the conference, according to the Ministry of Education.

Prof. Berhanu said that to rebuild schools and bring students back to their classes in conflict-affected areas, the country massively needs a strong discussion like this.

Recalling recent success of the 12th grade national exam as an example, the Minister said that the work began to ensure the quality of education will continue.

He also called on stakeholders of the education sector to strengthen their efforts to register improved results in education in Ethiopia.

At the conference, the sector’s national performance of the 2021/22 fiscal year will be evaluated. It is also expected that there will be a discussion regarding the course of activities of the current fiscal year.
