PM Abiy Ahmed’s visit to Italy marked by inspiring achievements

Addis Ababa, February 1, 2024 (FBC) – In statement, the Press Secretary for the Office of the Prime Minister, Billene Seyoum, stated that Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) and his delegation have spent three successful days in Rome, Italy she said marked by inspiring achievements.

Among key events the delegation attended, the Prestigious Agricola Medal bestowed up on Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed by UNFAO is recognition for Ethiopia’s achievements in the agriculture sector particularly the productivity in the wheat farming efforts, she explained.

Billene cited the Green Legacy Initiative as a milestone that has opened up the pathways for other agricultural activities such as the Bounty of the Basket which are accelerating nation’s transition from food security to food sovereignty.

The Press Secretary also noted that Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has better leveraged the Italy-Africa Summit to deliver Africa’s call to developed nations including Italy for cooperation with the continent in economic infrastructure including road connectivity, railway and ports and other key sectors.

The Prime Minster highlighted Ethiopia’s immense potentials in the renewable energy sector and called developed countries to invest in this sector, according to the Press Secretary. She said the Premier also encouraged Italy and other developed countries to invest in the agriculture sector in Africa and support industrial development and job creation endeavors in the continent.

The Secretary stated that Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed held fruitful bilateral discussion with Prime Minister of Italy Giorgia Meloni. She also highlighted the agreement reached to return ‘Tsehay’ Aircraft to Ethiopia as Premier’s remarkable diplomatic success, calling it monumental in inspiration the generation for future innovative endeavors.
