PM Abiy attends launch of 3rd phase of Green Legacy Initiative in Amhara region

Addis Ababa, June 6, 2021 (FBC) – Amahra Region has started the 3rd phase of the Green Legacy Initiative in attendance of high ranking government officials including  Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed in Debre markos town.

Deputy Prime Minister Demeke Mekonnen, First Lady Zinash Tayache, Presidents of Amhara, Ormoia and Sidama Regional States Agegnehu Teshager, Shemelis Abdissa and Desta Ledamo and other regional and zonal officials have attended the launching event.

On the occasion, the Prime Minister called up on Ethiopians actively participate in the national tree planting program and leave there legacy on the efforts underway to realize the green, beautiful and prosperous Ethiopia.

“The call to adorn Ethiopia is a call to unite at all levels in protecting our nation and committing to fulfill Ethiopia’s Vision for Prosperity” the premier underlined.

The Amhara Regional State aims to plant 1.83 Billion tree seedlings during this rainy season, out of the total saplings 247.8 Million are to be planted on a single day.

According to Agriculture Bureau Head of Amhara Regional State, Markos Wonde, 35,000 ha of land has been already arranged in several parts of the region for the already started Green Initiative Campaign run under the theme of “Let’s adorn Ethiopia”.
