PM Abiy’s visit to USA enhances ties between Ethiopia, int’l organizations: MFA Spokesperson

Addis Ababa, December 15, 2022 (FBC) – Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia, Meles Alem, stated that Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s working visit to the USA will strengthen and renew diplomatic relations between Ethiopia and international organizations.

The Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Meles Alem, delivered a biweekly statement regarding Ethiopia’s current diplomatic activities.

Meles Alem indicated that Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s working visit to the USA and his participation in the 2022 US-Africa Leaders’ Summit have significantly demonstrated Ethiopia’s effective diplomatic activity.

He said that the long-standing friendship between Ethiopia and the United States will further reinforce the diplomatic relationship.

The Spokesperson recalled that the World Bank has recently approved $745 million grant in development support for peace and reconstruction after the conflict in the northern part of the country.

He further recalled that Ethiopia received a major award in recognition of its success in green legacy initiative to address the adverse impacts of climate change, stating that the green legacy initiative is becoming a joint project of all Africans.

Meles also mentioned the repatriation of more than 3,000 of our citizens from Saudi Arabia and efforts underway to investigate the death of Ethiopian citizens on the outskirts of the Zambian capital.

Furthermore, Spokesperson Meles stated that the FDRE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Demeke Mekonnen, held a fruitful discussion with the representatives and ambassadors of the European Union based in Addis Ababa, as per the Spokesperson Office of MFA Ethiopia and Ethiopian News Agency.
