Addis Ababa, April 9, 2024 (FBC) – Addis Ababa Police has announced closure of some major roads in the capital for Eid al-Fitr prayer (Salah). Police stated that some highways and roads will be closed till the end of the Eid prayer during the 1445th Eid al-Fitr holiday tomorrow.
According to police, the closure of the roads aims to reduce traffic congestion and improve the flow during the holiday.
Accordingly; the main from Piassa via the Churchill Avenue to Legehar will be closed at Tewodros Square, police said.
In addition, the road from Gottera Interchange to Stadium will be shuttered at Agona Cinema.
The Mexico-Legehar Street will be blocked at Mexico Square while the street leading to Meskel Square from the National Palace will be closed at the Traffic Light near the parliamentary hall.
Futhermore, the Olympia – Meskel Suare, Megenagna – St. Urael Church, Tikur Anbesha Shell – Legehar roads will be sealed off at Olympia Square, 22 Roundabout and Tikur Anbessa Shell respectively.
Roads from Signal and Aware to Kazanchis, from Meskel Flower to Meskel Square, from Kera to St. Kirkos Church and from Geja Sefer to Legehar will be closed at Aware Women Square, Gazebo Square, the Intersection near St. Kirkos and the venue near Senga Terra 40/60 codo houses correspondingly.
The road from Abinet to National Theatre via Geja Sefer will be shuttered at a place adjacent to Goma Kuteba and those from Teklehaymanot locality to National Theater through Meteorology and from Teklehaymanot to National Theatre via the back gate of Tikur Anbessa Hospital will enclosed near Meteorology HQ and Tikur Anbessa Shell Drens.
Furthermore, vehicles are not allowed to drive from Teklehaymanot to Legehar through Gola Michael passing lanes till the end of the Eid al-Fitr Prayer, according to the Addis Ababa Police.
Police said vehicles without special permits are banned from using the aforementioned roads from 4:00am in the early morning till the conclusion the Eid Prayer. Drivers are requested to use alternative directions that will be given by the members of the city police in charge of supervising the traffic flow during the holiday.
