Police arrest 10 Wolita zone leadership

Addis Ababa, August 10, 2020 (FBC) –Police in Wolita zone, SNNP regional state, have so far detained 10 zonal leadership suspected of working to create mistrust between the people and the government.

Alemayehu Bawdi, head of the regional state’s peace and security bureau, told FBC that they were suspected of blocking government’s efforts to respond to demands of the people after collaborating with forces that do not fan the reform.

He said a total of 10 senior leadership of the zone have been arrested since yesterday for attempting to disrupt on-going efforts to respond to the zone’s demand for statehood  in line with the direction set by the government.

He said there were attempts to incite unrest and block roads following the arrest of the leadership.

One person was killed and others were injured following the incident, he said, adding works are underway to restore peace and return the areas back to normalcy.

The demand for statehood will be answered in line with the directions set by the government, he said, calling the community to be patient and refrain from illegal activities.
