Religious leaders call for peace

Addis Ababa, January 6, 2020 (FBC) –Religious leaders have called on Ethiopians to opt for peace by distancing themselves from destructive acts.

Christian faithful in Ethiopia celebrates Christmas (Gena) tomorrow, January 7.

In their Christmas message issued today, the religious leaders urged Ethiopians to be guardians of the country’s peace.

Abune Mathias, Patriarch of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church, said lack of peace will affect the livelihoods of the community and result in poverty.

Accordingly, it is the responsibility of the community and the government to protect the country’s peace.

Berhaneyesus Souraphiel, Cardinal of the Ethiopian Catholic Church for his part, called for unity.

He urged Ethiopians to avoid hatred and uphold their age-long culture of living in unity and unison.

President of the Evangelical Churches Fellowship of Ethiopia, Pastor Tsadiku Abdo, said “we all should discharge our responsibilities to bring peace by distancing ourselves from violence.

The religious leaders finally wished all Christian faithful a happy Christmas.
