Revenues Minister meets with Chinese State Taxation Administration Minister

Addis Ababa, December 19, 2019 (FBC) – An Ethiopian delegation led by Adanech Abebe, Minister of Revenues, held discussion with Wang Jun, Minister Chinese State Taxation Administration.

Following the talks held in Beijing, the two sides agreed to cooperate on capacity building, technology, and share experience in the field of tax collection and administration.

Stating that Ethiopia is one of the fastest economies, Adanech said the increasing investment flow to Ethiopia from China is a testimony of the strong relations between the two countries.

Data collected over the past three years show that China’s direct investment in Ethiopia has hit $4.2 billion and China accounts for 72% of Ethiopia’s total imports while it exports $ 1.1 billion during the past five years, she said.

Accordingly, it is mandatory to modernize the tax collection and management system so as to add energy to the growing economy and provide efficient tax services, the Minister indicated.

Adanech called on the implementation of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed in Addis Ababa last month to cooperate in customs affairs.

Wang Jun for his part said The Chinese Government would provide the necessary support to Ethiopia’s move towards digitized tax collection and tax administration services.

The Ethiopian delegation is on an official visit to China since December, 16.
