Stakeholders asked to support Ethiopia’s quest for sea access

Addis Ababa, December 3, 2023 (FBC) – High – level meeting on addressing unique climate vulnerabilities of Landlocked Developing Countries held in Dubai on the sidelines of COP 28.

During his participation in the meeting attended by the UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres and representatives of eight countries, the Finance Minister, Ahmed Shide, reaffirmed Ethiopia’s stand on its quest for sea outlet.

Ethiopia has been working hard to mitigate climate change, Ahmed said, citing the Ethio-Djibouti electric railway as one of the major steps taken by the government to use clean energy for the transportation industry.

He also shared Ethiopia’s success stories in the Green Legacy Initiative in terms of accelerating the nation’s climate mitigation efforts. The Finance Minister said Ethiopia has given prior attention to the renewable energy sector.

Landlocked developing countries face high transport and logistics costs, and are highly exposed to effects of climate change, Ahmed noted, calling all stakeholders to support Ethiopia’s quest to get access to the sea.
