Third edition of Ethiopia-Nigeria Joint Ministerial Commission meeting kicks off

Addis Ababa, June 13, 2022 (FBC) – The third round of the Ethiopia-Nigeria Joint Ministerial Commission meeting kicks off in Addis Ababa.

In the two-day meeting the two countries are expected to sign MoUs in the military, health, trade, industry, culture and sports sectors.

Ambassador Fissaha Shawel, Director General of African Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia said the joint Ministerial Commission meeting aimed at advancing mutual interests and expanding Ethio-Nigeria partnerships in the continent.

Victor Adekunle Adeleke, Ambassador of Nigeria to Ethiopia, the AU and UNECA, on his part, expressed hope that the joint Ministerial Commission meeting would further tighten the longstanding relations between Nigeria and Ethiopia.

The meeting is said to pave the way for the two countries to jointly tackle global challenges posed by economic fluctuations, Russia-Ukraine issue, climate change and terrorism, among others.

The meeting drew a number of Ethiopians and Nigerians representing various key sectors in the two countries.

It is to be recalled that Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s recent visit to Nigeria and his discussion with President Buhari reflected the desire of both countries to take concrete steps to expand bilateral relations in key areas including the economy, trade, science and technology, solid minerals, among others.

Ethiopia and Nigeria conducted their first and second joint Ministerial Commission meetings in Addis Ababa and Abuja in 2006 and 2017 respectively.
