Vice President of Cuba lays wreath at Ethio-Cuba Friendship Square

Addis Ababa, November 19, 2023 (FBC) – The Vice President of Cuba, Salvador Antonio Valdés, laid a wreath at the Ethio-Cuba Friendship Square today.

The Vice President said the Ethiopian-Cuban relationship is historical and forever linked with sacrifices of brotherhood, which the people and Government of Cuba are proud of.

He pointed out that the Cuban soldiers who sacrificed their lives during the 1977–78 Ethiopia–Somalia war were martyred for the sake of their second homeland.

Mr. Jantrar Abay, the Deputy Mayor of the Addis Ababa city administration, attended the ceremony, and he welcomed the Vice President of Cuba and his delegation to Addis Ababa.

Members of the Ethio-Cuban friendship and the Ethiopian students who studied in Cuba attended the ceremony.

The Ethio-Cuban Friendship Square was built as a memorial to Cuban soldiers who fell on the side of Ethiopian soldiers.
