China donates 800,000 COVID-19 vaccine doses to Ethiopia

Addis Ababa, October 24, 2021 (FBC) –The Ministry of Health this morning received 800,000 Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccine doses donated by the Chinese government.

The Health Minister Dr. Lia Tadesse received the COVID-19 vaccine from Chinese Ambassador to Ethiopia Zhao Zhiyuan at the Addis Ababa Bole International Airport.

Dr. Lia commended China for the comprehensive anti-COVID-19 support it has provided Ethiopia with adding that the vaccines will help enhance efforts to curb the COVID-19 pandemic.

Ambassador Zhao Zhiyuan said the vaccines will be accessed to civil servants and other segments of the community vulnerable to the virus.

“China will donate another 2 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines to Ethiopia. And on October 24, 2021, 800,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccines donated by China arrived in Ethiopia for handover. Until now, 1.8 million doses of vaccines has been donated by China to Ethiopia,” the Ambassador said. He has underscored strong commitment of China to help Ethiopian health sector.

According to Ministry of Health, nearly 4 Million people have been vaccinated against the Coronavirus.
