Consul General says many heading back to homeland to invest in Ethiopia

Addis Ababa, April 6, 2021 (FBC) – Ethiopia’s consul general in Minnesota, Abdulaziz Mohammed said many are heading back to Africa to invest in their country, Ethiopia.

While mobilizing support for the ongoing construction of Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), Abdulaziz noted that many Ethiopians in Minnesota are applying for visas to return home “and invest in their country.”

To help Ethiopia weather the COVID-19 storm, the consulate raised about 152,000 USD in donations from Ethiopians throughout the Midwest, as well as in-kind donations of personal protective equipment.

Members of the Diaspora are increasing their involvement the socio-economic and political activities in their country, he said, adding that Ethiopians in the US are extending support to alleviate impacts of the pandemic and other challenges the nation is facing with.

He further stressed need to collective efforts from all Ethiopian in homeland and abroad in to address some unfortunate circumstances in Ethiopia.
