DPM & FM Demeke confers with Presidents of Uganda, Kenya and Somalia at TCC’s Summit of ATMIS

Addis Ababa, April 27, 2023 (FBC) – On his fourth and final leg of his trip to the East and Great Lakes region of Africa, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Demeke Mekonnen, has met and conferred with the Presidents of Uganda, Kenya, and Somalia.

The discussion was made while Uganda was hosting the Heads of State Summit of the Troop Contributing Countries (TCCs) to the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) at Entebbe State House.

During the discussion Demeke briefed the President of Uganda Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the President of Somalia Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and the President of Kenya William Ruto, about ongoing peace consolidation in Ethiopia.

All leaders commended Ethiopia for its commitment to peace.

Meanwhile, the ATMIS troop contributing countries leaders’ Summit successfully concluded its meeting in Entebe, Uganda.

The Summit issued a communiqué praising Ethiopia and other parties for their role in the stability of Somalia.

The Summit aimed to evaluate the achievements made in the implementation of the ATMIS mandate and to review the ATMIS drawdown plan in compliance with the United Nations Security Council Resolutions (UNSCRs) 26/70 (2022) and 26/28.

In the past four days, DPM and FM Demeke visited Tanzania, the Comoros, and Burundi and held bilateral discussions with leaders of the three sisterly African countries to foster stronger ties and address peace and security challenges in the Horn of Africa.

Demeke was warmly welcomed by the State Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uganda, Henry Okello, and Ambassador Etsegenet Yimenu, Ambassador of Ethiopia to Uganda, as he arrived in Entebe.
