Ethiopia committed to to ensure ‘African Solutions to African Problems’: Speaker
Addis Ababa, November 20, 2023 (FBC) – The Joint Meetings of the Permanent Committees of the Pan African Parliament is taking place in Addis Ababa.
In his opening remarks on the meeting, Speaker of the House of Peoples Representatives of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, Tagesse Chaffo affirmed Ethiopia’s commitment to play a significant role in bringing “African Solutions to African Problems”.
The House Speaker highlighted Ethiopia’s indispensible role in the formation of the Organization of the African Unity currently named the African Union.
Ethiopia remains committed to contribute its role in the efforts to realize prosperous Africa by addressing the challenges the continent is facing. He noted parliamentary diplomacy as a helpful instrument in seeking collective solutions to problems of the continent, calling for the need to strengthen cooperation to this end.
Tagesse explained that Africa is the cradle of humankind and home to ancient civilizations with high potential of development, adding “bringing solution to the continental problems paves the way for the realization of a prosperous Africa.”
The speaker also called for concerted efforts to bring solution to human trafficking, human rights violations, poverty and civil wars which he mentioned as the major problems in Africa.
Acting President of the Pan African-Parliament, Ashber Woldegiorgis, on his part, called for an immediate solution to human trafficking which he described as a “problem worse now than it ever was”.
