Ethiopia, Cuba renew commitment to transform longstanding ties to higher level

Addis Ababa, July 22, 2021 (FBC) – Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ethiopia to Cuba, Shibru Mamo met with Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister of Cuba Anayanasi Rodriguez and discussed ways of transforming the 46 years long ties between the two countries.

The two sides explored ways to enhance longstanding bilateral cooperation in areas of health, international forums, education and technology transfer areas. Ambassador Shibru expressed Ethiopia’s strong desire to cement cooperatin with Cuba.

Ambassador Shibru briefed the deputy foreign minister on the unilateral ceasefire declared by the government of Ethiopia in Tigray region to create a peaceful atmosphere to farmers of the region and the ongoing humanitarian operation in the area.

But, the ambassador noted that the TPLF terrorist group is attacking civilians and barring the humanitarian activities defying the ceasefire.

The Cuban Deputy Foreign Minister, for her part, appreciated the measures taken by the government of Ethiopia to curb hostilities with declaration of the ceasefire and adherence to a peaceful approach to resolve circumstances related to GERD.

She reaffirmed the commitment of Cuba to deepen relations with Ethiopia in multifaceted areas of cooperation.

He further briefed the Cuban minister that Ethiopia has conducted peaceful, transparent and free elections that involved active participation of the public.

Ethiopia is following amicable approach towards utilization of the Nile River and, is working to resolve the dispute with the two downstream countries over the GERD project through peaceful negotiation.
