Ethiopia earns $908 million from coffee exports in first half of fiscal year

Addis Ababa, January 20, 2025 (FMC) – The Ethiopian Coffee and Tea Authority (ECTA) has reported that the country secured $908 million from coffee exports in the first half of the 2024/25 fiscal year.

During a recent press conference, ECTA Deputy Director-General Shafi Umer announced that this revenue was achieved through the export of over 204,000 tons of coffee to global markets.

Shafi highlighted the concerted efforts to boost foreign currency earnings by enhancing the production of coffee, tea, and spices, stating that improvements in operations have contributed to the rising coffee export income.

The government has set an ambitious target to export 400,000 tons of coffee this fiscal year, projecting total revenue of $2 billion. The official also noted a substantial improvement in performance compared to both the current budget year expectations and previous year figures.
