Ethiopia-Korea alliance forged in blood: President Sahle-Work

Addis Ababa, October 10, 2022 (FBC) – Ethiopia receives South Korea’s backing on its ongoing endeavors of a 10 year economic development scheme which further deepens the alliance forged in blood.

FDRE President, Sahle-Work Zewde, and South Korea’s National Assembly Speaker, Kim Jin-pyo, has held talks in Addis Ababa to discuss ways to bolster economic cooperation between the two countries.

During the meeting, Sahle-Work and Kim stressed the two countries are allies “forged in blood.”

They also discussed on the current Ethiopian investment regulation and Korean investors in the country.

According to reports by KBS World and The Korean Herald, the President confirmed that she will contact relevant government agencies to assess investment opportunities for Korean companies.

Speaker Kim, on his part, pledges to back Ethiopia’s ongoing endeavors for economic development while expressing his optimism of Ethiopia’s support for South Korean businesses in the country.

Noting that Ethiopia is one of the biggest recipients of South Korea’s official development assistance program, Kim reiterated that Seoul will help the country realize its 10-year economic development scheme.

He also said that he would recommend South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol officially invite President Sahle-Work to Seoul and that he himself would invite the parliamentary leaders of Ethiopia.

Kim’s trip marked the first official visit to Ethiopia by a South Korean parliamentary chief since 2013.

The report also recalled that Ethiopia is the only country that sent ground forces in support of South Korea during the 1950-53 Korean War.
