Ethiopia tops Africa’s list of fastest-growing tourist destinations

Addis Ababa, January 27, 2025 (FMC) — UN Tourism data listed Ethiopia as a standout in African tourism, with international arrivals soaring by a significant figure in 2024, surpassing pre-pandemic benchmarks.

The United Nations World Tourism data indicated that Ethiopia has seen a 40 percent increase in international tourist arrivals in the past five years, boosting its tourism sector, which was hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The latest data ranked the East African country one of the fastest-growing country in Africa in the past five years.

Morocco and Egypt are ranked second and third, respectively from the continent, according to the 2024 World Tourism Organization (WTO) report.

In the world, Ethiopia ranks 6th, following Qatar, El Salvador, Albania, Saudi Arabia, and Curacao.
