Ethiopia, Zimbabwe vow to elevate bilateral relations

Addis Ababa, July 22, 2022 (FBC) – Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of of Ethiopia to the Republic of Zimbabwe Ambassador Rashid Mohammed paid a courtesy visit to the Acting Foreign Affairs and International Trade Minister of Zimbabwe, Professor Amon Murwira on Wednesday.

During his visit, the two sides discussed bilateral relations and noted the need to focus on action-oriented cooperation.

Ambassador Rashid also expressed his gratitude to the Zimbabwean Government for the warm welcome accorded to him since his arrival in Harare.

Ambassador Rashid noted that the time-honoured Ethiopia-Zimababwe ties are built upon a solid foundation of African brotherhood, spirit and unity, recalling the contributions of Ethiopia in the decolonization struggle of many African countries, including Zimbabwe.

In this regard, he said the unwavering commitment and practical support Ethiopia had extended to the liberation struggles of African countries was emanated from the country’s deep belief in the ideals of Pan-Africanism and African solidarity.

The Ambassador further indicated that Ethiopia is greatly honoured for rendering support to its African brothers.

Ambassador Rashid noted that he is greatly honoured to serve Ethiopia as an ambassador in Zimbabwe pledging to make substantive contributions to the development of the bilateral relations, underscoring the need for further engagements in the economic, social and public diplomacy arenas.

Ethiopia is ready to enrich the connotations of the bilateral ties in various fields viewing it from a strategic and forward looking perspective, the Ambassador added.

Minister Professor Amon Murwira, warmly welcoming Ambassador Rashid on his assumption of office, noted that the Government of Zimbabwe treasures the historic Ethiopia-Zimbabwe ties as evidenced by Ethiopia’s support to Zimbabwe’s struggle for liberation.

The Minister appreciated Ethiopia for extending material and moral support to Zimbabwean freedom fighters during the liberation struggle.

The Minister, wishing to elevate the historic ties to new heights pledged to offer support and assistance to Ambassador Rashid to successfully carry out his duties and advance Ethiopia-Zimbabwe relations.

Minister Professor Amon Murwira also appreciated the role played by the superb team of the Ethiopian Airlines in connecting Zimbabwe to the world adding fresh impetus and vitality to the growth of Ethiopia-Zimbabwe ties.

He further appreciated the contributions of Ethiopian Airlines for being the only airlines that had continued rendering quality services to Zimbabwe amid the COVID-19 global crisis.
