Ethiopians celebrate Timket/Ketera festival colorfully nationwide

Addis Ababa, January 18, 2025 (FMC) – Ethiopians have celebrated the Timket Ketera colorfully with various religious and cultural events nationwide.

Clad with traditional costumes and attires followers of Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church have observed the Ketera festival with processions and singing following the Tabots or Replica of the Arc of the Covenant to the Timket Bahirs where the major Timket or Ethiopian Epiphany celebration will take place tomorrow from early in the morning.

Ketera, which is the eve of the Timket Holiday, is observed to honor the travel of Jesus Christ from Galilee to the Jordan River to be baptized by John the Baptist.

Timket is the major religious festival that marks the baptism of Jesus Christ in the Jordan River.

Here in the capital Addis Ababa, Patriarch of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church, His Holiness Sbune Matias, religious leaders, government officials and along with thousands of hundreds of faithful attended the Ketera festival in Janmeda.

Foreign tourists from several countries of the world have attended the Timket Ketera festival in several cities and towns of the country.
