Ethiopians in Russia, Belarus denounce President Trump’s remark on GERD

Addis Ababa, October 26, 2020 (FBC) –Ethiopians residing in Russia and Belarus have condemned the recent comment made by U.S. President Donald Trump regarding the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD).

Trump’s comment that Egypt may “blow up” the dam is an expected from a President of a great nation, they said in a four-point statement issued today.

His remark also didn’t take into consideration the centuries-old relationships between Ethiopia and the United States.

“We denounce the statement by Donald Trump in the strongest terms because it is a call for incitement of war against the sovereignty of the country,” they said.

The further expressed their support to the on-going African Union (AU) led trilateral negotiations on the dam.
