Ethiopia reassures its continued support for Africa CDC

Addis Ababa, December 8, 2024 (FMC) – Ethiopia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gedion Timothewos, held discussions with Jean Kaseya, Director General of the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), on Saturday 7th December.

On the occasion, Gedion commended the Africa CDC as a flagship initiative dedicated to advancing Africa’s health agenda.

He reaffirmed Ethiopia’s unwavering commitment to supporting the organization in operationalizing its activities and contributing to a brighter health future as a world-class center for research and innovation, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported on Saturday.

The Director General expressed his gratitude for Ethiopia’s continued support since the establishment of Africa CDC in Addis Abeba. He emphasized the critical role Ethiopia plays in hosting the organization and facilitating its efforts to serve African Union Member States effectively.

Dr. Kaseya also highlighted Africa CDC’s commitment to providing technical support to Member States while leveraging their guidance and cooperation. Established as an autonomous health agency of the African Union, Africa CDC aims to strengthen the public health capacity of Member States to detect, prevent, and respond swiftly and effectively to health threats.
