S.Sudan supports Ethiopia’s rights to utilize its natural resources for dev’t: Amb Pitia Morgan

Addis Ababa, June 5, 2020 (FBC) – Minister of Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ministry Gedu Andargachew and South Sudan’s Ambassador to Ethiopia, James Pitia Morgan discussed various mutual issues today.

During the discussions, Ambassador James Pitia Morgan said south Sudan will not involve any treachery that harms Ethiopia’s national interests.

Ambassador Pitia Morgan stressed that the information circulated via social media claiming that South Sudan had agreed to Egyptian request for a military base in Pagak is groundless.

According to the ambassador, South Sudan’s government has issued a statement concerning the misinformation and circulated it to all international organizations found in Juba and briefed Addis Ababa based media on the issue.

He said Ethiopia has played a big role in terms of enabling South Sudan to become an independent country and ensure benefits of its citizens.

Peoples of Ethiopia and South Sudan are one community living in two countries sharing many things in common, James Pitia Morgan said.

South Sudan firmly supports Ethiopia’s right to utilize its natural resources for development purposes, and respects all interests accordingly, the ambassador reiterated.

stressed that the “Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam has a significance role in ensuring regional economic transformation,”  ambassador James Pitia Morgan said, adding “the dam project has full support from South Sudan as it also initiates it to same drives.”

The ambassador called up on Ethiopia, Egypt and Sudan to resolve their differences on GERD through negotiation based on their mutual interests.

He further expressed gratitude to Ethiopia for its support of COVID 19 medical Supplies to the republic of South Sudan.

The Foreign Affaris Minister, Gedu Andargachew, to his part, said Ethiopia understands all her friends and adding it has not accepted the rumor disseminated claiming South Sudan’s agreement with Egypt for a military base in Pagak.

Ethiopia values its partnership with South Sudan, Gedu added.

“Not only Ethiopia but all upstream countries have a right to equitable use wters of the Nile River”, Gedu noted, adding “Ethiopia understands that South Sudan has not any reason to oppose its interests in this regard.”

Ethiopia, based on its longstanding stand to cooperatively prosper with its Africa brothers, will exert efforts to link itself with South Sudan via infrastructural development, Gedu said.

Gedu further reiterated the commitment of Ethiopia to help South Sudan a peaceful and stable nation that ensures wellbeing of its citizens.
