Foreign tourists enthralled by Timket/Ketera festival in Addis Ababa

Addis Ababa, January 18, 2025 (FMC) – Visitors from around the globe approached by Fana Media Corporation (FMC) were captivated by the vibrant Timket/Ketera celebration held in Addis Ababa.

First-time attendee Marie Serrault praised the warm hospitality of the locals and the city’s allure as an ideal destination for festive celebrations like Timket/Ketera. “I am thrilled to be here. It’s my first visit, and I am enchanted by the traditional costumes, religious songs, and the seamless organization of the event. Witnessing such a magnificent festival in this beautiful city is truly a delight,” she remarked.

Fellow tourists Yoyo Mekari and Baptiste Mekari echoed Marie’s sentiments, expressing their enjoyment of the cultural attire, the religious hymns sung by clergy, and the unique musical instruments featured throughout the festival.

Italian tourists Eleonora Loli and Giorgia Ricci told FMC that they found the atmosphere of the Timket/Ketera festival in Addis Ababa to be vibrant and captivating.

The open-air event provided a remarkable glimpse into Ethiopia’s rich cultural heritage, showcasing the country’s ancient traditions and religious values, they said. The harmonious voices of the singers, coupled with the captivating melodies and distinctive movements, left a lasting impression on the, Yoyo Mekari and Baptiste Mekari said.

Marie emphasized that Ethiopia has preserved its ancient religious celebrations like Timket, offering them to the world as invaluable intangible heritages. “I believe Ethiopia is home to numerous untold cultural and historical treasures,” she stated, urging stakeholders to promote these assets to bolster the tourism industry.

The visitors committed to sharing their experiences of the festival and Ethiopia’s attractions with friends and family upon their return home.
