Huawei Ethiopia, Addis Ababa University join hands to promote opportunities for graduates

Addis Ababa, May 17, 2023 (FBC) – Huawei Ethiopia and Addis Ababa University (AAU) collaborated to hold their third annual handshaking forum, a program designed to promote opportunities for graduate students.

Addis Ababa University kicked off its annual Research and Fairs Week on May 15, 2023, under the theme “Fostering Socioeconomic Development at the Core of Innovation and Entrepreneurship.

In the opening session, officials delivered their remark, among them the Finance Ahmed Shide, the Planning and Development Minister Fitsum Assefa and the Innovation and Technology Minister Belete Molla.

In his opening remarks, President of the Addis Ababa University, Prof. Tassew Woldehana stressed that since the university is in the final process of autonomy, strengthening collaborations with the private sector is mandatory.

Liming Ye, Huawei PR Director, also presented the role of private companies in collaborative innovation and technology transfer.

Liming explained Huawei’s contribution to Ethiopian higher education in the activities like the Huawei ICT Academy, the Huawei ICT Competition, Women in Tech, Seeds for the Future, the Digi Truck Project, and the Hand Shaking Forum.

The Director said the company is ready and willing to invest, innovate continuously, and work with Ethiopia and higher education institutions to build a fully connected, intelligent world.

He pointed out that the company is also an advocate for an open, shared ICT talent ecosystem that benefits all parties.

During the event, the ministers also acknowledged Huawei’s contribution to ecosystem talent building.

Huawei has a long history of training and certifying new graduates and providing them with the latest industry trends such as datacom, artificial intelligence, storage, LTE, big data, wireless LAN, and others.

Huawei has established an ICT academy in 45 private and public universities in collaboration with the Ethiopian Ministry of Education. Huawei hopes to collect more than 600 resumes from recent graduates at this exhibition, and Huawei-certified students will be given special consideration.

“Huawei will keep bringing new ICT solutions to Ethiopia, actively promote the growth of the country’s ICT industry, and collaborate with local partners to establish a fully connected, intelligent world.”

Addis Ababa University annual Research and Fairs Week will continue up to May 18th 2023 at its 6kilo campus.
