Japan pledges continued support to boost health sector in Ethiopia

Addis Ababa, February 20, 2023 (FBC) – Japanese Ambassador to Ethiopia, Ito Takako, said that the Japanese government will continue its support to Ethiopia to improve the country’s health services.

During the launching event of Japan-backed one-year project worth of 60.8 million birr, which aims to address gender issues, in Endjibara town, the Ambassador stated that the Japanese government will continue to strengthen its bilateral relations with Ethiopia in various fields.

She noted that the Japanese government is providing various medical supplies and professional training to improve Ethiopia’s health services.

The Ambassador reaffirmed that her government will continue to provide intensive support to Ethiopia in the sector.

It was stated that the project aims to reach 160,000 conflict affected women and adolescent girls in Amhara and Benishangul-Gumuz regions with reproductive health services and dignity kits..

The project will be implemented by UNFPA in collaboration with the Ministry of Health-Ethiopia in 8 woredas in Amhara region and two woredas in Benishangul Gumz region.

The representatives of the health bureaus of the two regions, on the other hand, praised the Japanese government for unveiling a new project in recognition of the social crisis in the areas impacted by conflicts.
