Lemlem wins Gold at World Indoor Athletics Championships in Belgrade

Addis Ababa, March 19, 2022 (FBC) – Ethiopian Athlete Lemlem Hailu won the gold medal in the women’s 3,000m at the World Indoor Athletics Championships in Belgrade on Friday.

The 20-year-old Ethiopian clocked 8mn41s58 to finish ahead of American Elinor Purrier ST. Pierre, 8mn42s04. This is her second career medal, after winning bronze at the 2021 All Africa Games in Nairobi.

Another Ethiopian, Ejigayehu Taye, took over at the halfway stage, towing the bunched field through 2000m in 5:59.09. Slowly but surely, the gears began to shift among the main contenders, with Hailu hitting the front with three laps to run.
