Lessons learned from management of pandemic for safe schools’ reopening: PM

Addis Ababa, October 23, 2020 (FBC) – Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed stated that Ethiopia has learned significant lesson from the management of the coronavirus pandemic in a way to run the teaching learning process in cautious way amid reopening of schools.

In his statement issued up on the reopening of schools, the Premier said the decision made by the government related to lockdown of schools was among the major measures to taken to protect students and the community at large from the pandemic.

He stressed measures taken to curtail the spread of the virus have resulted in mitigating the impacts of the pandemic on overall activities in the country.

The premier underlined that the reopening of schools came at a time when health professionals and institutions have built better capacity to prevent the spread of the pandemic and community developed sufficient awareness about protective measures.

Prime Minister Abiy added that the reopening of schools in light of precautionary measures would help psychologically motivate students and address issues related to domestic violation and substance abuse trends among the young generation.

Schools are taking precautionary measures like building of additional classes and fulfillment of hygienic facilities and protective supplies like washing substances, sanitizers and masks in a bid to protect students and the school community from the pandemic, the premier added.

The Prime Minister further urged parents, teachers and the general public at large to play their share in the fight against the pandemic amid the reopening of schools at all levels.
