Medina Isa wins “Women First 5km Run”, sets new course record

Addis Ababa March 26, 2023 (FBC) – Medina Isa has won the 2023 Safaricom Women First 5km Run and broke the course record clocking 00:15:11.533.

Tsige Gebre-Selama finished second and Melknat Wudu finished third.

The 2023 Safaricom Ethiopia Women First 5km race, which started and finished at Bole Atlas Square, was held for the 20th time this year.

Mayor of Addis Ababa, Adanech Abiebie, Minister of Women and Social Affairs, Ergogie Tesfaye, the legendary long distance Ethiopian athlete Haile Gebre-Sellasie, former world champion athlete Meseret Defar, and the 2022 world champion athlete Letesenbet Gidey were present at the event.

It is learned that thousands of women from Addis Ababa, celebrities, diplomats, tourists and other guests have participated in the all-women running event.

Organized by Great Ethiopian Run and partners, the 2023 Safaricom Women First 5k Run was held under the theme of “I care for my sister”.
