Ministry unveils ET 302 Boeing 737-8 Max aircraft accident investigation final report

Addis Ababa, December 23, 2022 (FBC) – The Transport and Logistics Minister, Dagmawit Moges has disclosed the ET 302 Boeing 737-8 Max aircraft accident investigation final report.

Dagmwit stated that lockdown imposed following the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic impacted the investigation progress.

Despite the impacts posed by the coronavirus pandemic, the Ministry, through a team it established, was conducting detailed investigation on the accident immediately the crash took place, the Minister said.

Dagmawit expressed gratitude to the the investigation which is composed of experts from France and several organizations from the U.S.

According to the investigation report, it is confirmed that members of the flight crew were licensed and qualified for the flight in accordance with the Ethiopian Civil Aviation Authority standards.

The airplane’s Left Angle of Attack (AOA) sensor failed immediately after takeoff, sending faulty data to the flight control system, she said, adding that the malfunctioning on the  Maneuvering Characteristics Augmentation System (MCAS) caused the accident.

The plane en route to Nairobi crashed 6 minutes after took off on March 10, 2019, killing all 157 people on board.
