MoE, Ethio telecom introduce free online English language learning platform

Addis Ababa, November 11, 2022 (FBC) – The Ethiopian Ministry of Education and Ethio telecom unveil a free online English language learning platform.

The tutorial platform was unveiled in the presence of Education Minister, Prof. Berhanu Nega and Ethio telecom Chief Executive Officer, Frehiwot Tamru.

According to the Ministry of Education, the platform was developed by the technology experts of MoE and can be used by all members of society besides to students and teachers.

The Minister of Education, Prof. Berhanu Nega, stated that the application will play an important role in strengthening the English language education in schools and building students’ proficiency in the process of teaching and learning.

In addition, the Ministry is working to solve the problem that students encounter in understanding their education properly, since the medium of instruction of learning and teaching is mostly English from the seventh grade.

He mentioned that efforts are being made to deploy volunteer English teachers and members of the diaspora from different countries to the country and deploy them in schools.

The CEO of Ethio telecom, Frehiwot Tamiru, said that since the responsibility of building a new generation is shared, providing the lessons for free is one of the examples of her institute’s social responsibility.

She said that Ethio telecom will support the changes being made by the Ministry of Education to ensure the quality and accessibility of education.

It is stated that English lessons with different contents including textbooks will be offered on the free online platform for different grade levels.

Students and teachers as well as the rest of the community are invited to use it to learn and improve their English language skills.
