More Finnish firms keen on seizing lucrative investment opportunities in Ethiopia: Deputy FM

Addis Ababa, December 12, 2022 – More Finnish businesses are interested to explore lucrative investment opportunities in Ethiopia, according to Under-Secretary of State for Development Policy at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland, Pasi Hellman.

The FDRE Minister of State for Finance, Semerita Sewasew, held discussion with Finnish delegation, led by Under-Secretary of State for Development Policy at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, Pasi Hellman, who is on an official working visit in Ethiopia for three days, to strengthen economic cooperation between the two countries.

During the discussion, Minister of State Semerita Sewasew, recalled that Ethiopia and Finland have good bilateral relations, expressing her optimism that the Finnish government would continue to strengthen the development support provided through the World Bank and the African Development Bank Group (AfDB),

She was also hopeful that the Finnish government would continue its support on agriculture, education, health, drinking water and other social service sectors.

The State Minister reminisced that the Ethiopian government is currently making various economic reforms and that the country has a massive potential for development.

Ms. Semerita confirmed that Finnish investors will be successful if they seize the opportunity to invest in agriculture, agro-processing, energy and other investment sectors in Ethiopia.

She added that the peace agreement reached in Ethiopia has created conducive environments for cooperation with various development partners.

It is the Ethiopian government’s priority to restore the public service institutions damaged during the conflict and provide regular services to the people, State Minister Semerita stressed.

Finland’s Under-Secretary of State for Development Policy at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, Pasi Hellman, said that his country will continue to strengthen its humanitarian and development assistance to Ethiopia.

He added that various Finnish companies are currently operating in Ethiopia, confirming that other organizations are interested in benefiting from the lucrative investment opportunities in the country.
