PM Abiy Ahmed extends Fiche Chembelala wishes

Addis Ababa, April 28, 2022 (FBC) – Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has extended best wishes to all celebrating Fiche Chembelala, the New Year festival of Sidama people.

Fiche Chembelala, a New Year festival of the Sidama people in Southern Ethiopia, began today in Hawassa city. President of Oromia Regional State, Shimelis Abdisa and other high level government officials arrived in Hawassa City to attend the festival.

The Sidama people observe the movement of the stars to celebrate the New Year. Fiche Chembelala was registered by UNESCO as world’s intangible heritage seven years ago.
