Addis Ababa, February 27, 2023 (FBC) – The African Development Bank Group (AfDB) has officially launched today the ‘Borana Water and Sanitation Project’ worth of $14 million.

The project was launched by Abdul B. Kamara, Deputy Director-General, East Africa Region, African Development Bank Group.

The grant will alleviate the impacts of severe droughts on the lives and livelihoods of pastoralists in Southern Ethiopia, Kamara tweeted after the launching ceremony.

AfDB is working in collaboration with all stakeholders to combat droughts in the country permanently, the Deputy DG said.

He added that the project aims to improve access to water and sanitation to boost the productivity of agro-pastoral communities, particularly in drylands.

The Deputy Director said the latest partnership shows the bank’s unwavering commitment to supporting the government of Ethiopia.

It is to be recalled that African Development Bank Group has approved $13.95 million grant for Borana Resilient Water Development for Improved livelihoods program last November. The grant was eventually signed by the FDRE Ministry of Finance and AfDB on December 6, 2022.
