Ethiopian culture dominate at African Day 2023 commemoration held in Uganda

Addis Ababa, May 26, 2023 (FBC) – The Ethiopian Community with the Ethiopian Embassy and other African Origins and Embassies/ High Commissioners based in Uganda, took part in the Grand March of Africa Day 2023 to Commemorate the 60th Anniversary of African Union, with the theme “Acceleration of AFCFTA Implementation to Ensure the Economic Independence of Africa.”

The Embassy, collaborating with the Ethiopian Diaspora Community and Kampala Field Office of Ethiopian Airlines, held a colorful booth at the event, where they displayed Ethiopian Cultural Clothing and promotion of Ethiopia’s Tourism attractions and destinations as the Land of Origins during the event held at the Kololo Independence Ground in Kampala.

In addition, over 100 members of the Ethiopian diaspora community proudly displayed Ethiopia’s vibrant culture and traditions by exhibiting a coffee ceremony and traditional food.

Furthermore, the Unique Amharic Alphabet has been promoted entertainingly by having visitors practice writing their names in the script (ፊደል ሀ-ፐ). “Definitely your the best” Prime Minister Nabbanja as she applauded children who wrote names in the Ethiopian Alphabet.

The Ethiopian booth was also attended by the guest of honor, The Rt. Honorable Robinah Nabbanja, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Uganda, Dean of the Diplomatic Corps, Head of missions & representatives of African Embassies accredited to Uganda, Higher Officials from various Governmental and Private Organizations, Fraternal Associations, and Invited Guests.

Attendees have treated to a charming Ethiopian ” “Gursha from Agelgil.” presentation and were invited to partake in the magnificent custom of feeding with hands, feeding others, and dining together.

Other guests were taken through procedures of making Ethiopian Coffee , they tasted it free of charge and this left many impressed with what they witnessed from the Ethiopian tent.

“For all along we have been missing such events in Uganda, i think all African countries should copy Ethiopian and showcase their culture to the rest of the world. I have tasted Ethiopian food , coffee which could have been hard for me without travelling to that country.” said Moses Wagaba one of the Ugandan that visited the Ethiopian booth.

Samuel Musoke one of the people who visited the same booth urged Ethiopians next time to bring in more items from their culture so that people can be able to learn more from them about their strong love towards their heritage.

Accordimg to UG Standard, at the event various African countries participated in Entertaining guests with their traditional songs and dances.
