Africa must draw inspiration from Victory of Adwa to achieve its dev’t goals: Africans

Addis Ababa, March 1, 2023 (FBC) – Ghanaian Journalist, Wilberforce A. Asare said that Africa has to draw inspiration from the Victory of Adwa of Ethiopia to better achieve its development goals.

African countries have suffered a lot at the hands of European colonizers and this in turn had adverse effects on the overall socio economic development in the continent, Asare said.

The battle of Africa has changed the course of history giving a lesson that Africans can address their own problems by themselves. This lesson has been obtained from Ethiopians who gallantly defeated the Italian invaders who tried to conquer their land.

Wilberforce A. Asare exclusively told FBC that the victory has brought about a lesson that Africa is capable of managing its own affairs by itself.

“The current African development has been hinged at the so called development partners most of them were colonizers of countries of the continent. African resources have been exploited by these so called partners. So, Africans must unite to utilize their resources by themselves so as to channel their development aspirations based on homegrown mechanisms,” he noted.

“Currently we are fighting a new war. That new war is our development endeavors. We can take the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) as a battle field. Drawing inspiration from the Victory of Ethiopia, We Africans can successfully defeat this war by achieving the goals of the AfCFTA and other continental initiatives,” he Ghanian journalist added.

Lexy Mojo-Eyes, CEO of the Nigeria based Legendary Gold Limited, for his part said, Adwa is a historical phenomenon what Africans are proud of.

The Battle of Adwa happened 100 years ago, but the lessons brings and the inspiration it prompts still exists, he said.

The Victory that Ethiopia claimed over the Italian invading forces encouraged the rest of Africans who were under the yoke of colonialism to fight for their freedom and independence, he underscored.

“Following Ethiopia’s lead related to the Victory of Adwa, our African forefathers and foremothers have managed to declare their independence. Now the whole Africa is independent thanks to the Victory of Adwa,”

“Ethiopia has now maintained its languages, cultures and so on. This is a result of the Adwa Victory. Being not colonized means a lot in terms of preserving one’s own identity,” he added.

Lexy Mojo-Eyes called on African leaders and people of the continent at large to transform the spirit of the victory into economic and financial independence.
