Agriculture Minister highlights the need for value addition in coffee sector

Addis Ababa, October 19, 2023 (FBC) – The Agriculture Minister, Girma Amente (PhD) visited the Head Quarters of the Coffee and Tea Authority where he observed the activities being carried out by the institution to transform the coffee industry.

Among various activities underway in the Authority, the Minister visited the trainees who are taking coffee related courses which he commended as instrumental in propping up the sector with skilled workforce.

The Director General of the Coffee and Tea Authority, Debela Adugna (PhD), briefed the Minister on activities the authority is undertaking boost export of tea, coffee and spice products and expedite research works to this end.

The Minister, taking into consideration the immense potentials and the growing demand for Ethiopian coffee in the global market, stressed the need to put aside shift from traditional methods of production and invest in emerging technologies he said crucial to ensure quality and increase competitiveness and income generation.

The Minister further highlighted the need for value addition in the coffee industry, describing this as crucial step to the income from the sector.
