Amb. Seleshi Bekele acknowledges religious leaders’ exemplary role in strengthening unity of Ethiopia

Addis Ababa, September 02, 2022 (FBC) – Ethiopia’s Ambassador Extraordinary & Plenipotentiary to the USA, Seleshi Bekele, discussed current national issues with the religious leaders of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church.

Ambassador Seleshi discussed with the the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahdo Church Archbishop Abune Fanuel of the Diocese of Washington DC and its area, and the Archbishop Abune Ermias of the Diocese of North Wollo, Ethiopia.

He acknowledged the religious fathers’ exemplary role in reaching out to and supporting the victims and strengthening the unity of the country.

In particular, the courage they have shown in bringing victims together, raising aid, and comforting those who have been devastated by the terrorist TPLF in the last two years, said reports from the Embassy.

The Ambassador urged the religious fathers to continue their paternal advice and play their priceless role in bringing the people in Ethiopia and abroad together to stand for the unity of their country and explain the reality on the ground to the international community.

The Archbishop of Washington DC area, H.H Abune Fanuel, has promised to strengthen the work of coordinating the diaspora living in the three states, providing support to the displaced people, and ensuring that the local governors in the USA have a balanced view.

On his part, the Bishop of North Wollo Diocese, H.H Abune Ermias, said that, especially, Woldia and its surrounding areas were heavily ravaged in the conflict and the church has been a refuge for all Ethiopians regardless of race, religion or other views.

Abune Ermias noted that North Wollo is still not far from the renewed war by TPLF terrorist, and he called for everyone to contribute in rebuilding the damaged religious and public service institutions.
