Council vows to take legal measures on individuals, groups machinating to disrupt peace, development

Addis Ababa, April 22, 2022 (FBC) – The National Security Council led by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has issued a statement on current situation in Ethiopia. The statement said Ethiopia has been going forward victoriously overcoming multifaceted threats posed by its enemies.

Enemies of Ethiopia have attempted to derail the reform and prevent the nation from being an emerging African power. They attempted to divide Ethiopians based on ethnic lines, weaken economy of the country and dismantle institutions that are foundations for the nation. The enemies employed their media to preach divisive rhetoric and sow mistrust among Ethiopians.

But, the statement said, Ethiopians stood together in the spirit of unity in diversity and well thwarted machinations of historic enemies of the nation.

The justice and security bodies were among institutions that faced chronic impairment before the reform was introduced. The then leaders had weakened the institutions intentionally to fulfill interests of enemies, statement added.

“Following the reform, the government has undertaken a wide range of activities to capacitate the justice and security institutions which are now in a better position to defend wellbeing of the nation,” the statement said.

Finally, the National Security Council decided to take legal measures on individuals and groups engaged in dissemination of false information aimed to disrupt peace, armed groups affiliated to nation’s enemies, land grabbers and others who disrupting transportation, investment and other development activities.
