Investigation on human rights violations during conflict commendable: OHCHR Ethiopia Office

Addis Ababa, May 23, 2022 (FBC) – United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Ethiopia Office Deputy Head, Charles Ndema appreciated the investigation on Gender Based Violence (GBV) and other human rights abuses committed in the context of the conflict northern Ethiopia.

The government in partnership with UN Agencies and partners offered training to a team assigned to investigate human rights abuses in during the conflict.

The training focused on practices on investigating Gender based violence in conflict situation is aimed to carry out the investigation as per international standards.

Speaking on the occasion, Charles Ndema lauded the investigation carried out on the gender based violence and other crimes in the context of the conflict so far to address the pressing human rights issues in the country.

He called for immediate conclusion of the investigation and commencement of indictment to hold those involved in the crimes accountable.
