Some 23 religious media institutions receive license

Addis Ababa, August 31, 2022 (FBC) – Some 23 of the 46 religious media institutions operating in Ethiopia received a work permit from the Ethiopian Media Authority (EMA), today, August 31, 2022.

The National Consultation Forum on Religious Media, which started this morning with the theme of “Strengthening Religious Media for Solidarity Values”, has been ended on August 31, 2022, hence, 23 religious media institutions received their work permits from EMA, and the remaining 23 religious media are in process.

Evangelical Media, GMM Television, Selam Television, Ethiopian Catholic Church, Ararat Television, Assembly of God Television (Mahibere Kidusan Television), Children of Bereka Television (Yebereka Lijoch Television) and 17 other stations received their licence from the Authority.

Mohammed Idris, Director of the Ethiopian Media Authority, said that religion plays a major role in shaping and building the morals of the generation.

He also announced that the government has given recognition to religious media based on the idea that religious ideas can be accessible to the society and be a solution to the current problems in the country.

The Director stated that religious media are expected to play a major role in doing activities that will allow the values of solidarity to develop in peace building. He also stressed that the media should work carefully so as not to become a cause of trouble.
