Authority vows to continue taking corrective measures on media fabricating fake news

Addis Ababa, November 22, 2021 (FBC) – Ethiopian Media Authority vowed to continue taking corrective measures on media that are contravening laws that it has put in place violating ethics of journalism by disseminating false news and disinformation.

Absence of multilingual media in Ethiopia brings a vacuum that is being manipulated by some western media that have been fabricating lies and misinformation concerning the ongoing situation in the country.

Director General of the Authority, Mohammed Idris exclusively told FBC that some western media are still spreading news filled with distorted stories tarnishing the survival campaign.

The news being distributed by some western media are contrary to what is really happening in Ethiopia, Mohammed said, adding that their media propaganda are being orchestrated in line with their political will.

Recalling that the Authority has so far issued letter of warning for media that contravened laws and rules it has put in place, the Director vowed that the institution will continue taking corrective measures against any media that will continue the infringement.
