Bahrain affirms commitment to preserve the work environment for Ethiopian workers

Addis Ababa, May 17, 2023 (FBC) – Shiferaw Geneti, Consul General of Ethiopia to Bahrain discussed with Nouf Abdulrahman Jamsheer, CEO of the Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) and Chairperson of the National Committee for Combatting Trafficking in Persons.

They discussed the protection of the rights of Ethiopian workers and the support provided to the citizens who are pursuing their cases through the law.

The Consul expressed gratitude for the support being provided to Ethiopians. He requested the Chairperson to provide support to the Ethiopians during abuses of labor, illegal human trafficking, non-payment of their dues for their work, as well as shelter to the citizens who are pursuing their cases under the law.

Nouf Abdulrahman Jamsheer, for her part, congratulated the consul on assuming his position as Consul General in the Kingdom, wishing him success in performing his duties.

She stressed the role of diplomatic missions in cooperating with government agencies to raise awareness among expatriate workers on their rights and duties and the regulations and laws of LMRA.

She affirmed the Kingdom’s commitment to preserve the work environment for Ethiopian workers and maintain stable relations between workers and employers.

The CEO also highlighted initiatives that contribute to enhancing the work environment, including the labor registration system, the optional insurance system for domestic workers, and the wage protection system.
